We stopped for lunch Trattoria Acquamarina on our way to the Amalfi Coast. For me, it ended up being one of the most memorable meals of our entire trip to Italy.
From the moment we arrived, it felt like we had discovered one of those hidden local places travelers dream about finding. The setting was absolutely beautiful — tucked away with a peaceful garden terrace overlooking massive cactus trees, colourful flowers, and rolling greenery, all while enjoying a bottle of Montepulciano wine under the warm Italian sun.
The blue-and-white checkered tablecloths, fresh bread baskets, and relaxed atmosphere made it feel authentic and charming without trying too hard.
The food was outstanding from start to finish, but the grilled octopus completely stole the show. I can honestly say it was the best grilled octopus I’ve ever had. So many restaurants overcook octopus and it turns rubbery or chewy, but this was cooked absolutely perfectly. It was incredibly tender, soft, and almost buttery, with just the right amount of char from the grill to add smoky flavour. The natural sweetness of the octopus really came through, and paired with the silky potato cream and olive oil, every bite was unreal. It was one of those dishes where everyone at the table stops talking for a second because it’s that good.
The seafood pasta was another highlight. The clams tasted fresh from the sea, the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, and the sauce was light, garlicky, and full of flavour. The paccheri pasta dish was equally delicious, rich but still delicate, and tasted homemade in the best possible way. Even the fried seafood platter impressed us because it was light, crispy, and not greasy at all. Every dish felt fresh, carefully prepared, and authentically Italian.
What made the experience even better was the pace and atmosphere. Nobody rushed us. Lunch felt slow, relaxing, and enjoyable the way meals are meant to be in Italy. Sitting there with wine glasses on the table, fresh bread, sunshine, and that incredible food while surrounded by greenery felt like something out of a travel magazine.
If you are anywhere nearby, this restaurant is absolutely worth the visit.
